RAFARS attended the RAF Shawbury Families Day on Friday 22nd August. Robert GW6GBY and Gary G0DNI manned the stand and demonstrated 360 Radar aircraft tracking, HF, VHF and UHF (receive only) and a CW trainer.

We used a borrowed gazebo to provide a bit of shade from the bright sun and tables and chairs provided by Shawbury. However, the location did preclude the use of mains power so all operation was on battery power.

A couple of SLAB's provided power for a 4G Router for internet and to extend the life of the Icom IC-705. Both our laptops ran out of power towards the end of the day, but the Raspberry Pi 360 Radar ran all day using a USB power bank.

I think we need to look into a portable inverter to allow us to operate without mains power. A generator wouldn't really be suitable for such an event.
