Sorry For a break in the club reports. This has been due to holidays and courses.
The club is happy to announce that Jon M7JKV passed his Intermediate Exam and is now 2E0FMC, well done Jon and he is looking forward to sitting the Full Exam in the New Year. We may also have some other club members interested in sitting as well.
Today Tony, G4 CJC came along and loaded logging and FT8 software onto a lap top which has been made available to the club by Derf, G8ZGK. It took a while to get it up and running but at the end of the day Tony had to take it home to fix a missing file issue. All going well the club will soon have an electronic log to use.
Whilst all this was going on G7VRT and Derf G8ZGK fired up the Yaesu FT 1000 coupled it up to Derf’s Drake L.4B linear amplifier. He had just recently finished a total refurbishment and modifications to bring it up to more modern standards. He acquired this as new old stock together with the matching power supply. Once connected and tuned the RAFARS net was joined and good signal reports were received all round. After the net the set up was used to make a few more contacts. A total of 17 in the end. There were some issues towards the end of the list as the received audio became intermittent. This was raced to a PL259 to BNC Connector which was not working as advertised. This was consigned to the bin and a replacement used. It does not pay in the long run to buy cheap connectors!
The club now has three aluminium poles around 12 feet long which have been relocated from another part of the site. Various options for their use are being discussed.
